What is the DASH diet?

If you’ve been exploring different diets lately, you may have stumbled across the DASH diet and found yourself curious as to what it involves. First introduced in 1997, the DASH diet stands for ‘dietary approaches to stop hypertension’ (also known as high blood pressure).

High blood pressure affects nearly half of all Americans, and is defined as a systolic blood pressure greater than 130 mmHg or a diastolic blood pressure greater than 80 mmHg, according to the CDC. When left untreated, high blood pressure can cause damage to a range of throughout the body and may result in a heart attack or stroke.
