RMEF Offers Online Platform for Experienced and Novice Hunters

It’s called ‘OutdoorClass’ and it’s being offered by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation to help both novice and experienced hunters specialized training in a variety of skills, even game preparation.

RMEF Communications Director Mark Holyoak spoke to KGVO News about the innovative new platform.

“It’s been more than two and a half years in the making,” Holyoak began. “It’s a partnership between the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, GoHunt, Randy Newberg, who’s a well known public lands hunter and Cory Jacobson, who’s the 10 time world elk calling champion. It’s called OutdoorClass and it’s a subscription based online learning hub where people can go and they’ll have access to video courses, in fact right now there are four different video courses.”

Holyoak provided some examples of the courses offered through the ‘Outdoor Class’ online platform.

“One is early season elk hunting, how to call elk in,” he said. ‘Another one is late season elk hunting with a rifle. One is finding mule deer. And another one is all about once you have this great game, how do you prepare it? How do you fix it? How do you cook it? And so that’s available right now on outdoor class.com. It’s a subscription video service.”

Holyoak said the initial offerings will be greatly expanded over time.

“Since this is brand new, we have the four courses off the get go. And these will be expanded over time,” he said. “We’ll bring in other experts in the outdoors. Plus, it’s not strictly hunting or elk hunting, I mean we’ll bring on backcountry survival, working with dogs, hunting other species, that sort of thing, how to E-Scout, and even drawing tags. It’s an opportunity just to introduce people to the outdoors at a higher level. It can be at a beginning level if they need it or at a higher level if they want to do some self educating, or continuing education.”

Holyoak said he was struck by how beautiful the outdoor videos are that make up the OutdoorClass project.

“There are beautiful landscapes out there,” he said. “You can learn and watch and be entertained at the same time but, it’s really about putting that knowledge to work gaining your own personal knowledge bank, beefing that up and making yourself just a little better, a little more skillful, more familiar with the outdoors.”

Holyoak said OutdoorClass can be accessed through OutdoorClass.com and available for an annual fee of $99.99. RMEF members will receive a 20 percent discount when they sign up using the code RMEF.
