New Delhi: Arthritis is a condition where different joints of the body get inflamed and this inflammation causes severe pain in different parts of the body. Due to this pain, it becomes difficult to make any sort of movements and to go about doing various tasks throughout the day.
It is important that you follow the course of action set by your doctor to keep the inflammation and pain at bay. But certain changes in your diet might help you to not only keep your body weight in control but also stall adverse reactions that certain foods cause .

Being overweight or obese can create pressure on your joints. Staying leaner will eventually alleviate the pain in your joint pains and ease the stiffness.

Here is a list of food habits that you must avoid to keep the pain away.

Food and beverage with added sugars: Avoid food and beverages that have added sugars in them. Added sugar is not very healthy for the body especially when you have healthy. It adds to the calorie intake which is something to be concerned about, especially for people with arthritis.

Processed food: Processed food contains preservatives that may make your symptoms of arthritis worse. Baked goods and fast food and other processed foods contain trans fats which have harmful cholesterol and can increase the inflammation in the body, causing the arthritic pain to worsen.

Red meat: Red meat can increase inflammation and aggravate the pain in the joints. Also, eating red meat can contribute to weight gain which can eventually contribute to the pain, swelling and stiffness.

Alcohol: Alcohol is a big contributor to the inflammation that leads to arthritis. Therefore, it is best that one avoids alcohol consumption altogether or seek a doctor’s advice on how much one can consume. The risk of osteoarthritis increases with chronic alcohol consumption.

Salty food: Food that is high in sodium content might be a risk factor for arthritis. Cutting down food that contains high levels of salt such as pizza, cheese and shrimps might be helpful in controlling the symptoms of arthritis.
