3 Chesapeake Schools are transitioning to ‘red’ status, learning online next week

Chesapeake, Virginia (Wavy) — Three schools in Chesapeake are moving from “yellow” status to “red” on Tuesday, meaning schools will temporarily switch to online learning.

Students at Georgetown Primary School, Norfolk Highlands, and Southwestern Elementary will learn online from January 18-21.

Schools are moving to ‘red’ due to an increase in COVID-19 cases in schools.

The school division will assess the ability of the three schools to return to in-person learning based on COVID-19 case data and staff capacity next week.

The next update for online learning or in-person learning will come on Thursday, January 20th.

The transition to “red” for those three schools comes after only one day Chesapeake Public Schools announced that six more schools have returned to “yellow” status after a brief distance learning process. These students will return to class on January 18th. Masks are required for all staff, students and guests within school facilities.

More instructions have been emailed to families about online learning for the next week.

School meals will be available for curbside pickup on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:30 pm Details of individual schools must be provided by email.
