🌱 Center Moriches-Eastport Daily: Greenport ‘Mass Casualty Exercise’

Welcome back, Center Moriches-Eastport. Diane Witek here in your inbox this morning to tell you everything you need to know about what’s going on around town.

First, today’s weather:

Mostly sunny and pleasant. High: 78, low: 58.

Here are the top stories in Center Moriches-Eastport today:

  1. Waterfront dining is a big deal on Long Island, especially during the summer when the seafood is fresh from the local waters. But if seafood is not “your thing”, most restaurants serve American cuisine. So be sure to check the weather before heading out to a seaside eatery. See the top ten waterfront restaurants on Long Island. (LongIsland.com)
  2. Just days after 19 children and two adults were killed in the Uvalede, Texas school shooting, the Greenport Fire Department hosted a “mass casualty exercise” on the playing fields at the Greenport High School. 24 agencies were involved, which included “local ambulance companies and fire departments converging at the scene and sending crews and equipment.” More exercises like these should be held all over Long Island, which in itself is a sad statement. 3. According to Dan’s Papers, a guilty verdict has been reached in the trial of Stuart Conklin, a railroad employee whose negligence caused a Long Island Rail Road train crash because of a broken track switch that he reported overtime for inspecting it. Conklin’s sentence could be four years in prison. (Dan’s Papers)
